In his book," A doctor in the house" Tun Dr Mahathir stated that Anwar was sacked from the cabinet on 2 September 1998 when he was confident and obtained all evidents that his deputy involved in homosexual activities.He did such a unpopular decision as Anwar was dangerous to continue serving as DPM and later to take over the leadership for the country. Tun recalled that on the night the UMNO Supreme council decided to sack Anwar, many of his supporters who waited outside the building, shouted angrily and threw plastic water bottles at Tun before going into the car. According to Tun the dramatic excess was a style of Anwar who was good at creating havorc. As usual Anwar did have a tour to all over the places,telling people that his dismissal was a conspiracy to prevent him from becoming PM. What Anwar is doing now before the court pass the verdict on his sodomy case is similar to what he did in 1998/1999!
"Although I retired as PM,the allegations of Anwar's homosexual activities did not fade into oblivition...... I may have made many mistakes, but removing Anwar was not one of them" Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
